SIMHASTHA KUMBH

ARTIST STATEMENT

Photography is considered to be a medium to bring 'truths', facts, and stories out in the public domain. It is also an art form that tests both the aesthetic and the technique of the photographer. For me, photography is this and more. It has been a vehicle of my self-discovery as it performs the role of the compass for a lost sailor. It helps me understand the world, and my own motivations. Each new assignment throws open a new world to me, and I have come to realise, it reveals a little more of myself. From working on a project on the Eunuchs of old Delhi, to the Simhasth Kumbh, the more unfamiliar the subject at first, the more is its power of attraction. While music concerts and news assignments draw me for their energy and pace, the subtle sides of human nature are visible to those looking for them even on the street. I hope that i can continue to make longer and deeper strides in my photographic adventure, because that has now become inseparable from my journey as a human being.
